This listing is for a charming handcrafted porcelain doll entitled "Almanzo" which is an original issue in the "Little House on the Prairie" collection, inspired by the classic series of children's books based on the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder. This child character doll was designed by artist Joan Ibarolle, and produced under the hallmark of the Ashton-Drake Galleries. This edition of "Almanzo" was retired on December 31, 1994. Condition is excellent and "Almanzo" comes with his wood handled pitch fork.
This beautiful doll is still in the original inner box and outer box which it will be mailed in. You'll also receive the original Certificate of Authenticity and descriptive leaflet. The descriptive leaflet gives a description of the doll collection, a story about the individual doll and information about the artist.
As an example I'll give you the doll collection description in part followed by an excerpt from the "Almanzo" story. The official collection description says in part: When Laura Ingalls Wilder published her nine "Little House" books, beginning in the year 1932 with "Little House in the Big Woods, " they proved to be much more than just the memoirs of a young girl raised in the rural wilderness of a bygone century. These lively, personal memoirs captured as never before the true spirit of America's pioneer families, learning to live simply off the land as they looked forward to a golden future. Born in 1867 in a small log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods in Wisconsin (where the Ingalls' saga begins), Laura and her family eventually moved by covered wagon through Kansas and Minnesota, and finally settled in The Dakota Territory. There, Laura grew up, then met and married Almanzo Wilder.But the trials of hard physical labor, threatened or ruined crops, and living at the edge of the "civilized" American West were easily offset by the joys and strengths of this extraordinary family... And the friends and neighbors they came to know. Today, the love, respect, and sharing of the Ingalls family is legendary. The descriptive leaflet's "Almanzo" story says in part: "Almanzo" is a hard working farm boy, who, unlike many other boys his age, actually takes pride and satisfaction in his chores around his father's ample farm.
"Almanzo" has many tasks, but one of his favorites is tending to the mangers of the horses, cows and oxen. He enjoys climbing up into the warm haymow and pitching hay down to the barn floor. Then he spreads the clean hay around the animals' stalls........
