At a gala party given in their honor. Diana made international headlines when was photographed wearing this evening gown, as she danced throughout the event first with the President himself. The original gown was exquisitely tailored in midnight blue silk velvet to suggest the style of an Edwrdian dinner dress.
To compliment its deep blue hue, the Princess wore a pearl choker centered with an oval sapphire and diamond broach which had been a gift to her from the Queen Mother. Years later, this celebrated gown was among several that the princess herself donated to be auctioned for charity.. A sale that raised millions of dollars to benefit the causes she valued so highly.
